I missed not going to Stratford this year Russ..

Pleased it was a good do and the weather was kind. Stratford is always quite small but that is a lot of its appeal.

It was good Jim.. A lovely collection of GS's and GSA's. would have been nice if you could of made it.
XM's were on the light side...only four I think.
And Patrick and Franklin took 'that' Xantia.....I assume you have the reg plate now, as it is on normal reg now.

Sounds like I missed a good one Russ and it needed me to help bolster XM numbers too...

russ92xmsed wrote:I believe I have met the new owner of the Mandarin G reg that was for sale on Facebook. Anyway. There was a G reg Mandarin one there which I haven't seen before. Very very tidy car. It is a 2.0i. So I have told him to join the forum and introduce himself, which he intends to do. He is also planning on attending CXM on the sunday. So hopefully you'll all get to meet him and the car.
Another early car saved.
I'm not too sure if it was that car Russ as this car was up for grabs a little while back... It was for sale due to the unfortunate bereavement of the one owner from new and I was contacted by the chap who was selling it on. I made an offer within the range of what he wanted, but never heard back...! Chased him but nothing! Turned out this guy got it and dad brought a window regulator along for him today...! Small world...!

Indeed, it's been getting some use...! Getting positively high miles now at 39K I believe...

Think we missed you Russ when walking around, always the trouble at these meets, never enough time to chat to everyone...!
russ92xmsed wrote:I would post some pics, but I didn't get round to taking any photos. Sorry! Shameful. Though I think Franklin will post some up.
Indeed will post some pics up soon once I've gone through them...

Oh right...I kind of heard little snippets of the storey and put 2 and 2 together and got 5! Well not matter, he wants to join the forum, so will see. It was a lovely looking G plater.

Sorry to have missed you too Franklin. I was stuck behind the stall in the morning and had a good walk around in the afternoon when i was relieved. Got talking to this new XM owner and his Father, so was occupied with them. Sounds like they have a good citroen history.

Bloody gearbox is still making this annoying sound when changing into 4th. The fluid is spot on and still red. I think I am going to have to do another fluid change and see if that helps. Otherwise I am lost. If anyone wants to experience it at CXM, then all to glad to oblige!
That sounds like friction material slip when engaging drive for that ratio.

I have a gearbox for sale If you want it.

Got me the most fragile XM you can buy at this years CXM. :D

Image

I have been wondering about trying to get one of these, and low and behold, a white CX turned up with a load of them in the boot. Couldn't say no!

For those who were interested in my silver trim tape, this is it on the roll. The width is almost perfectly the same width as the trims themselves. The role is 1" x 36' and can be bought from Fancy-Tapes. They have a website.
It has lasted longer than I thought it would so far. So for £8.00 its a bargain. Only issue is it wont go round the bumpers. It is too thick and not wide enough. So another plan is afoot for those.

Image

So an update on my gearbox. Talked to Dean about it and i think at worst it needs a new valve block. Absolute end of the world it is a new box. Really hope not. But concluded that it is wise to treat it with care. the history of my car was it livied in London for most of it's life and then was owned by a fellow XM enthusiast in Stevenage. So all this urban driving might have effected the box. Although I was told it had been rebuilt at some point as it has markings on it apparently. Unfortunately I cannot confirm this. I don't drive the car hard anyway but I do a lot of town driving...so I am not really helping it!
But talking to Jim and Paul on Sunday, we think the kickdown cable has stretched at the box end to the point where it really can't be adjusted anymore. We played around with it and got it to the best position, but i'm afraid to report it didn't do much good. Infact it made it worse! the Kickdown not really kicking down....had to result to manually dropping down to third to get up hills. It also decided it only wanted to change into 4th under light pedal pressure. It was changing okay. But interestingly, coming off a roundabout on to some duel carrigeway, it goes sluggish and the revs wont go above 1500 until it slowly speeds up.
A correctly adjusted cable has the ferrule 1-2mm from the screw adjustment. Mine is better when it is not like this...put it that way. So I need to find a kickdown cable from somewhere. Typical after just going to a rally!

Also had an interesting development on my 'damp' carpet. I initially thought it was the matrix. But driving around with newspaper on the floor for a few weeks, showed nothing. SO I am ruling that out. However using my sun visor on sunday evening, I opened it down and noticed a load of condensation on the visor and a very slightly damp headlining behind it. So this is an interesting thing to investigate. I wonder if the Aerial base is leaking. I have treated the typical water pouring through the central light ages ago, and it hasn't done anything since, it is getting in elsewhere thats for sure. The sunroof drains flow freely, but i bet the drivers side might of split. I think that heavy rain on Saturday somehow overwhelmed it and it seeped in. As I haven't noticed this before. ;) all dried out now though.

So next job is to get under the back and treat the rear subframe before the weather changes and winter really gets going.

The wet headlining might be the sunroof bonding failing.
