When we bought ours in 1998, I don't think we actually realised they were available in white - we certainly couldn't recall ever having seen one, just plenty of dark colours and silver, including estates. When our Citroen dealer offered to get the 2.5 up from their Southampton parent dealer for us to look at, he did actually say, amongst other things, "It is in white, is that OK?". Perhaps even an oddity for a Citroen salesman???

Don't think white has quite the Essex connotations nowadays, although I still quite like those stilettos...

XM were made to be in white, it is by far the best colour...which is why my first one, bought new, was white.

A white XM with no sunroof looks fantastic.

+1 to the White XM comments, they look really nice, especially in S1 form.

After 650 miles, the low fuel light came on yesterday. Seems a bit of an early warning as I reckon it's got another 100 miles in it at least. Academic now as I did give in a slosh some fuel in the tank. It's still going well, though it has developed an annoying belt chatter on tickover. It also has some NVH issues at tickover. It seems to really boom through the cabin. It has done that since I picked it up though. It continues to effortlessly eat miles.

On the way home last night, I had probably 300-400kg of timber in the back, collected from a friend. The ride did not improve - quite bouncy. I think this probably confirms that there's a lack of nitrogen back there somewhere.

I would bite the bullet and fit new spheres...all round if you are keeping the car.

You could try a regas, but don't know what brand of spheres are on the car, some are better than others. My preference is for IFHS, or OEM if you can get them.

My cars always have to work for their living. This wood was very heavy! Each one was a struggle for two of us to lift in.

I cannot quite agree with you there Will although lighter colours certainly do suit the car! My personal favourites are champagne and platinum. Regards, Matthew T.

I think white only works best with the trim and wing mirrors I n black. It all contrast nicely. But it does hide the crease down the side. And light metallic colours are best at highlighting that.
I wonder what the XM would look like in the early C5 pale blue colour.

Over 1000 miles covered in this beast in less than a month. Fabulous. I may have to get the clutch changed though, as it's heavy enough to take the edge off my enjoyment. I'm looking forward to the day I can afford a set of spheres for it too. Thanks to LankyTim, I now have a set of wheels to put my winter tyres on though.

Pale blue, Russ? What they used to call a "hairdresser's car". Can I say that nowadays????
