Went out to try and fix the glow plug warning light problem and found the XM disguised as a grass verge!

Goodness it's cold out there today. :(

This glow plug light thing is driving me mad for some reason. It was working a treat and then all of a sudden, nothing. Checked the relays and the plugs ect on the little black box. There seems to be no reason why it has stopped working.
I have a suspicion it is the dash. :?

Anyway...planning to drop the spare wheel carrier down tomorrow for rust removal and repair and also underseal the boot floor. Hopefully that will go better than messing around with electrics!

Oh dear Russ, is that what they mean when they speak of green motoring

What's the glow-plug problem exactly? I've missed something here

It's the green eco mentalists...they have attacked it! Should have a running on Veg oil sticker in it!! ( I don't run it on veg....yet!)

Well Jim, it has worked great, and then just stopped one day. I left it alone not bothering to look for a solution. Then taking the car off the road for 3 weeks to do the almightly long disc change, I found a plug connector disconnected. Plugged it back together and the next time I started it up, it worked and did so until Tuesday. Not worked since. The only problem is the connector is nothing to do with the glow plug light. I think it is the oil in water or water in oil connector.
This is it....

I checked the glow plug black box in front of the battery today and the connectors are done up nicely and not corroded. I pulled out the plug conncetor, fine. I WD40'd it all anyway. Still nothing.
The reason I think it is the dash, is because some of the displays have been a bit hit and miss.
The oil level indicator, always worked...but only flinches a little now. The auto box LCD does work, but constantly comes and goes. The fuel gauge goes on strike, but I think that is sender unit getting stuck in the tank. Sport mode light nothing...but we know why! :? ....And now the glow plug light.
I think its down to dry joints. Just need to be brave and get it all out of the dash and see what's occurring. Any other ideas?

It's some grass gone in somewhere? :) If it's the dash, I can send you a 'How to' take out the dash cluster. I did that recently and fixed an intermittent speedometer with it. This way, you are able to check the state of the warning lights and it's circuits (corrosion maybe) It's an easy job for what is worth. It's a pdf file so I can't send you the link.

That is the water sensor, but as as you fill from reputable filling stations it's irrelevant now.

The glowplug light will be the relay. My Cobalt one has fits and starts on the light working, but the glowplugs always work, so I don't worry about it.

That's right, same with mine - you can see/hear if you pay close attention, when the glow plug stops drawing current. You won't hear it if the council keeps cutting that grass verge. I still think you should send them a bill for car cleaning!:)
Dieselman, which of the ones is the glow plug relay looking from the front?
