They are pressed to allow access, not cut at all.

If I need to send anymore strut heads to KINGas for refurbishment I will split them and remove the tin weather shield.
As Dieselman states that will allow refitting to original appearance.
I note that on Xantia and C5 struthead these rainshields are made from plastic not steel.

The trial XM struthead that I split last year caused me serious concern due to the heavy corrosion and metal loss on the baseplate.
It confirmed that the value of the weld repair and security ring fitting that KINGas carries out as part of the refurbishment.

I have seen them in person and they really are top quality.

Anyone have a photo of the Dutch strut tops and they must be better than Elastomer!

I can try Matthew. I'll see if Liz can oblige.
The only issue is that the tops need to be in a good condition metal wise. I don't know if Aad restores or welds the metal parts, plus I am unsure if he fits anti pop through mods.
But with the milages and rough roads Jaap had to do, they have not failed prematurely. Jaap said that Aad is a retired rubber expert, spent his career working with it, so knows all about the bonding ect.

Are you saying the base-plate was corroded to a possibly dangerous level, even after reconditioning?
