Great day out at the DS rally today. Great to see some forum faces.

Huge thanks to Jim for interagating my ECU's with the Elit. Cleared two front ABS sensor intermittent faults.
And great developments on my severed hydractive wires. It seems the suspension ECU is fine and so is the Electrovalve. It goes in and out of sport mode :D .
So next step is to reconnect and then elit it again and try to find out what the real cause of why it was all by passed into soft mode.

I also had a spin in Jims very nice XM V6. Very kind of you Jim. And yes I do like it ....a lot! I can forgive the mk2 dash, I can see why many like the later V6 24V!!
It does transform the car and makes it feel quite different, well compared to my diesel anyway!. Great gearbox, lovely power......GRRRR!

Next stage is to try reconnecting those cut wires and see if we can make it work properly. Main thing is we know the basic ECU and electrovalve is good and happy...

I have a question for those who know. Sorry it is a bit of an obvious one!

I checked my fluid levels yesterday. All is well. I took the car out today and when I got back, I checked the gearbox level with the engine running and all nice and hot. I found the level to be on the bottom 40 notch. I dipped twice. Both times it showed this reading. Yet when the car is cold and not used, the reading is on the top notch of 80. :|

So is this right? I told you it was a silly question!!! ;) I suppose after using it, the fluid is all around the box.

I should also add all changes are super smooth. I adjusted the kick down cable yesterday. So it has a bit less slack. Although I think I need to move the end bolt on the pivot arm to take a bit more slack out of it. It isn't tight rope tight put it that way.
In that respect I'm happy.

That's right Russ, the HP18 has cold and hot marks on the dipstick and what you're seeing is perfectly good. The level will appear lower when the fluid is hot compared to when it's cold...

Your reasoning is quite correct as to why...

Pleased the kick-down cable adjustment has helped...

Thanks Jim for confirming my thoughts. Phew!

Enjoy the blazing hot weather. I'm off to do some spraying!

I can't see how the fluid will appear lower when hot than cold as it expands.

Are you checking the level with the engine running, then select all gears and back to Park, then check, engine still running.

When the car is hot (and has been run) the fluids will be travelling around their channels rather than resting under the influence of gravity. Dipsticks are generally designed to be used to test fluid levels when the vehicle is warmed up.

How will the ATF gravitate with the engine running, thus the gearbox pump, pumping ATF round the box and 'verter?

At 80c the level should be at the 80c marker.

The fluid level should be higher when hot as the fluid expands. The torque converter will be full of oil with the engine running but slowly drains to half full after the engine has stopped.
