Re: Russ's 2.1 SED Auto
She's alive....by Jove she's alive!!!!
Amongst the very stormy sudden showers, which I kept trying to miss, I have finally swapped the filters round this afternoon....almost given up hope.
And the operation was a complete success. It starts and runs great.
End of second crank, it sprang into life and settled to a nice idle. Satisfying. Bit smokey, but nothing serious and it very quickly cleared.
So Jim you were spot on. Thanks for the correct diagnosis.
And many thanks to Campbell for the loan of the filter. Just need to find a new one now!
Next on the list of to do's, get it ready for the MOT....got to get the blasted ABS light out. ERGH!

Re: Russ's 2.1 SED Auto
If your lower casing is OK, I have a new filter-head available. I bought it thinking that was my air leak problem, but it wasn't and had purchased a complete filter unit by then.

No. It used to be possible to buy the capsule separately, but seemingly not so anymore.

Re: Russ's 2.1 SED Auto
Russ, that's brilliant news
I'm delighted!
On the ABS front, have you had a good read of all my notes on games with Bendix ABS?
Offer is always open that if you fancy a trip over this way I’m always happy to ELIT and advise....
I've not forgotten we need to look at your suspension ECU as well...

Re: Russ's 2.1 SED Auto
That's very kind of Will. Thanks for the offer. I do however have a new complete filter all lined up, but if it falls through, then may I take up your offer?
Thanks
Jim, I haven't forgotten your kind offer for elit and lexia ect. I will read through your Bendix notes too, but with mine, it does go off, if it has been dry. So I'm hoping to drive it some more and it might work. I really want to clean the connectors as well. Damp just be getting in somewhere.
It is strange, it will go off for quite a while, but then comes back. Typical behaviour there...nothing new!...so I know the ABS works, as I have had to use it when a golf decided it want to drive into the side of me. Thank god for good Citroen brakes, we missed.
I just haven't got round to the suspension yet. Other things got in the way. I will carry out investigations after the MOT.
On other things, my box section issue is now sorted...well it isn't filling up with water anyway. I have dried it out now and put a little oil inside to creep into all the nooks and crannies.
I stripped the cap plug back to bare metal and found three small holes. Treated it with some rust converter, then used this putty that sets rock solid to cover the holes on both sides...so effectively the putty goes through the holes and seals both side. Then painted the whole lot with Hammerite. So that is all repaired and ready to go back on. Once properly sealed and bonded back on the car, I will either paint more Hammerite over the whole lot, or underseal it. Not sure yet. Either way, I want it to look neat.
Also need to service it in the next two weeks.
Thanks

Thanks Campbell.
I'm sorting out a new one, so should have your filter back to you shortly.
