They will be fine on the rear Brakes Will, they dont do a right lot at the best of times due to the fact it never carries a load and never get anything more than warm when they do.

Went and collected what is to be my new ride for the next few months today from southampton.
Exellent fun to drive with its 3.3l inline engine and 4 speed crash box, it REALY attracts attention too, brought the ferry to a standstill............may not be what you think though

It doesnt do Fast Will, not even by iow standards, 40 is your lot and you dont half know your doing it, with push rod linkages to drum brakes, manual ignition timing and mixture, vac operated wiper and a steering wheel that cannot be moved when stationary and needs two hands and full body weight when on the go its a driving experience that requires forward planning and concentration, then there is the fact the thottle is where the brake should be and vice versa :D
There are still a lot about but mostly in America think.

Hi all

Went to meet a very nice chap today who is a small XM fan, Peter would get on with him like a house on fire!
Looking at picking up his 2.0si which was driven in around ten years ago and never moved, it is never going back on the road, there is a fair bit of brown under the car and looking from afar the front outriggers are both shot, there are not many bits i want, just the drive line and windscreen, a member here has asked for some parts already if i get her which looks fairly certain price dependant as it will have to be taken away on a beaver tail. She is a H plate with an RP 4873.
I could not open the bonnet as its seized shut but assume magnetti electronic injection with mechanical ignition.

Will let you all know how it progresses

Crash box! So does this mean you'll have to discover the delights of how to double de-clutch?

Only on the downshift, for which you need the hand throttle or you run out of feet ;) shifting with the right delay works fine on the way up. Its an enlightening experience.

Spot on. Takes me back to when I learnt to drive on a 1935 Rover 10 . . . And, no, I'm not that old!!
At least, with an XM, you'll be used to "running out of feet" (only kidding).

I take it you haven't been tempted to move the pedals around on the Old Girl?

Not at all, it sounds scary having the brake and throttle swapped but the whole driving experience is so different from the moment you press the starter pedal operating the link rod operated starter you just never feel its an issue.
Half a dozen cars cutting in front of you and taking away all your seperation space from the outside lane as you aproach a roundabout on the A27 will get you bum twitching like a rabbits nose at times as the brakes are either off or slightly not off, then of course you dont have time to perform your down shifts in sequence because your using both feet on the brakes and both hands on the wheel to avoid levitating off the bench seat, doing all this with one eye shut while squinting out of the other and crossing any spare appendages is tricky but other than that if you remember you drive at the vehicles pace and not your own its all good
