Go and take out that cable and get it remade by speedy cables. It's well worth the trouble by the way you describe it.

I doubt it's the cable, but a bit of lube on the clutch pedal pivot wouldn't go amiss.

Hmmm. I think it had that the last time it was at the garage (cambelt). That kept it quiet for about 300 miles (most of which I did the day I collected it from the garage!). I reckon it's clocked up about 1500 miles over the past month and a half. Quite a lot of that while towing a trailer tent. It's bloomin' marvellous.

Seems I've got a fuel leak, and it seems to be around injector four (gearbox end).

The end leak-off bung was missing when I got it, but the diesel lurking around there seems pretty fresh. The car has had 40 litres of vegetable oil (which smelt fine) but is now back on dino diesel (which does not smell so nice). The fuel heater has already been bypassed, and I can't see any further leakage anywhere, so I'm assuming this is where the smell is coming from.

Is this a thing? Do injector seals perish? The other three are dry.

That looks like a leak off pipe leak to me, probably a result of using veg oil.

Thanks. A friend has also identified it. Guess I'll be replacing them then! Where's best to get them? I'm aware that cheap ones are hopeless.

Leak-off pipe does harden and go loose-fit with age.
Citroen sell a 1m length pack of the proper stuff for not-a-lot.
Worth replacing all the bits, which 1m more than covers.
If the final closing cap is missing, just use a 2cm length of the pipe, with a plug in it.

Closing cap was bunged back in November, but might renew it anyway. I'll track down some pipe. Could do with cracking on with it as I'm mega-miling it for the next two weekends again.

Any diesel specialist, or even a local garage will sell you some leak off pipe.
