I think Russ means the parking brake adjuster pips on the rear of the pads, not the ones on the outer edge. The proper pads are easily available from GSF and probably other suppliers.

Have you any cars with early calipers? I would be begging the pads, but have a couple of new sets and changed them a couple of days ago because the old ones were a bit noisy on heavy braking, even though they were only 2/3rds worn. Ggenuine pads as well...

As far as it being cold outside Russ, I remember doing a VW Scirocco head gasket and brake cylinders outside one January with ice on the ground and also working on a narrowboat engine in cold wind, rain and hail. Both jobs were urgent for others as they were stranded.

Yes, I mean the brake pads with pips on. Quite right there Will. I will try GSF possibly at some point. Might have better luck.

Oh my goodness Will, that makes my few hours of cold suffering pale into insignificance!
I'm hoping the weather might warm up a tad, as I'm helping Campbell in the Forest take out the engine of his 2.1 estate next week.

Sorry to go off topic... Can calipers be sent away for refurbishment?

Well I'm very happy to report that the new pipe has solved the air ingress to the main fuel feed to the filter and pump. :D Before there were quite large air bubbles travelling up the pipe. It couldn't have been the engine bay pipes as I had replaced them, so it fell to the tank pipe. And it's been successful, so it was that. I'm going ahead and replacing the leak back pipes from pump to bulkhead and the tank one, just to make absolutely sure it's all new and sealed. The tank one I think is actually leaking fuel slightly, as I keep finding moistness around the pipe on the sender unit. :? So that is going.

The hydraulic pressurising is improving, it's getting quicker to loose the warning messages. What is annoying, is it's a bit sluggish to start at the moment. By that I mean, you have to stuff the accelerator to the floor to get it to start. Indicative of air I think in the fuel lines still, before it's bled off. I'm hoping it might improve once all the pipes are done.
There is some tinkering to do as well with the fuel pump. I altered a screw that adjusts where the throttle lever rests, and I think I have wound it out too far and it's altered the idle. It needs putting back.

It's also funny how characteristics of an engine travel from car to car. On my old grey XM, in cold damp weather, would steam from above the expansion tank. I put this down to the bonnet lining and condensation drying out and evaporating off. As every time I checked it, there's no escaping coolant or signs of strange behaviour. The mandarin in comparison never did this. And guess what it did today. Steam appeared from the bonnet gap like the old grey xm. It cannot be the expansion tank, as it's using the mandarins tank, with a brand new cap, unless it's getting rid of unless east coolant. The level on this engine always sat quite low. Just one of those things. Still gave me that dreaded "oh what now" reactions!

Who believes in ghosts? cos I think the ghost of my previous XM is haunting my fuel tank!
Fuel gauge is playing up..... probably an earth.

The suspension is improving quite considerably. It's now pretty floaty. Infact better than the C5 now and at one point was worse than that.... And the C5 isn't exactly known for its xm like ride. ;)

The more you use them, the better they get, especially in the suspension department!

Apparently it's mechanic Monday today. So in support, the XM has eaten it's battery. My fault... Not used it enough.
