Hi All, I have been quiet for a while but I thought I should post an update on the recommissioning/restore on my V6. Firstly, it is good news, it is almost ready for an MOT but it has not been as easy as we first thought. It’s a good job it’s with Peter and his brilliant facilities, because I would not have been able to do some of the work that was needed.
As I have already posted, the car went to Pleiades to have the suspension and steering rack leak sorted and they did a fine job, for reasonable money. The delay since then has really been about Peter finding time to do the work but since his return from New Zealand, he has cracked on.
The big issue has been rust, despite the car being in my garage for 21 years or so, there were hidden rust problems. The main one was the front near side jacking point. On investigation, it was rotten. Peter had to cut the sill, inner sill etc away and remake the area. I will post a couple of pics but he has done a fab job. There was also an issue with a small the floor pan, which he has also remade.
The car is now running well, lifting and driving and isn’t leaking fluid (at the moment). A new set of tyres have been ordered and should be on by the end of next week. However it still has a problem with the handbrake and the steering boots are split. So it is going back to Pleiades early April for them to sort those issues and then MOT the car.
After that it is coming back to Teesside for some cosmetic work by me. Deep clean the leather, sort the trim etc.
The final bits I need to find are some front sidelight lenses (very rare things) mine are cracked but Pleiades say it won’t fail it’s MOT on them, as long as they are safe. The other thing is a spare wheel holder, mine had disintegrated with rust. If anyone could help with these parts, that would be great

I will give another update when the car has been in for its MOT. Thanks for all of the help from the people on this forum
