1994 Citroen XM Exclusive 2.5TD - 88k
As many of you will know, I bought this beautiful low mileage XM in January this year. I had planned to keep it long term and therefore spent a few hundred pounds immediately as it was going to be used daily. I had it up on a four post ramp to inspect the underside and it really is very clean and solid. The previous owner did two very small pieces of welding on the front subframe and applied fresh under seal over the entire underside. I covered over 900 miles in the first week of ownership going from South Devon to North Wales and various other stop offs - she behaved impeccably.
I had the cam belt and balance shaft belt changed straight away. I also visited Tony Westroen and had him work his magic. He replaced the flat accumulator and rear centre sphere and pressure tested the rest. Front spheres were fine, rears were re-gassed.
Next we changed the LHM and cleaned the filters. I had planned to bleed the brakes to remove the dregs of old LHM but found the rear driver’s side bleed nipple slightly damaged. I’ve since ordered a new set of bleed nipples but haven’t had chance to bleed them.
The interior heater produced barely any heat and it transpired that the heater matrix was completely blocked. We back flushed the system, filled it up with fresh coolant (see pictures!) and it now works well. The inner rear window was missing but is now in place.
There is loads of service history (if not full) from Citroen main dealers and various specialists. Original handbook pack present. It was owned for many years by the same older gentleman and many of the invoices are in his name.
The bodywork is generally very good. There are a few very small dents along the upper part of the driver’s door and the front bumper and nose cone have been sprayed with a rattle can but it’s only noticeable on close inspection.
The seats are fabric and are very clean and tidy. Four carpet mats fitted and genuine rubber mats up front. The headlining was a little damp around the sunroof when we got it so we sealed the sunroof up with some plastic and tape and it has since dried out. I suspect the drains are blocked. The motor spins freely when disconnected but will not move the cables when connected. I haven’t investigated further.
The engine is sweet and fires up instantly. We changed all four glow plugs upon purchase as it was slow/hard to start. A good used header tank was fitted too as the one fitted had broken up inside.
I’m loathed to sell but like many of you on here, we have too many Citroens, not enough space and a company car on the way. It wouldn’t take much to make this into a truly stunning, low mileage example. I will be putting 12 months MOT on it over the coming weeks. Located in Dawlish, south Devon. Looking for £1850.
