Hi

On the CCC ads is Alex Moulton ( of the fabulous spaceframe bike's fame) S-reg 24v XM. It's a low-ish mileage (70,000) in Blue with a cream leather interior (great combination). I've asked for details but non have come back.

Price - well it's quite a bit less than a stainless steel (953) Moulton complete bike, but when you know how much they cost, it's in no way "cheap" - around £5000.

Hi Tony,

There is an ad for it on the classified ads part of the CCC website. I think his car is very pricey! Roger Bradford doesn't even charge that much for them!!

Regards

Robert

Hi Robert

Yep the CCC ad is where I saw it.

£5000 is quite OTT for a 12yr old XM, even a very good one. I don't think that even WHM would get that for one, although they did sell a 70K '00 24v valve recently for £4K.

I don't know about fancy bicycle frames, but is this not the Alex Moulton who designed the rubber suspension units for the Alec Issigonis Mini?

It is indeed the same Alex Moulton.

Going by the picture that they have on the ad, the car has a big scuff on the front bumper corner which doesn't help it.

Roger Bradford was telling me that on many of the XMs he sell, he buys new "chrome" trims for the bumpers and other things to tidy them us as much as possible. But a big scuff and a 5k price tag is taking the piss.

Hi

Yes the picture in the CCC advert does the car no justice. And yes the same Alex Moulton on Mini/ British leyland (unfortunately never got to the expertise of citroen :D ) suspension fame.

The Bikes are a small wheeled icons with a basic suspension sphere jointing the two halves http://www.moultonbicycles.co.uk/index.html They are works of art and they should be for the price - going into 5 figures.

I perfer my bikes in carbon.

Hi All

I did get in touch with the chap selling the blue/ cream XM, it's not Alex though, he's called Dan Farrell, here's what he said...

"Hi Justin

I am putting together more details and pictures of this car. I will send details when they are available.

To be perfectly honest with you, I am in disagreement over the value. Alex Moulton thinks it is worth £6K. I think it is much more reasonable to place the value around £4K. I have looked at what Wolsey House and others are selling, there is no doubt that late XMs are desirable cars but they are not worth silly money. That said, the Mauritius Blue with cream leather is a very good combination.

The car should be going for MoT very shortly and following that you are of course welcome to come down to view and test the car.

Many thanks for your interest.

Dan"

As you can see I did bring him up on the price, and the scuff, and a few other things, but that was the last I heard from him, about 3 weeks ago; and since then I've just bought the V6 that was in the Citroenian XM section, the one with less than 30k on the clock ;-)

Also I have driven a blue XM with the cream leather, and although I love cream interiors, the XM isn't very successful IMO, as there's not enough cream, the carpets, the dash, and most plactics are the usual black, so it just looks unfinished, we had to wait unitl the C6 for a proper Merc style full cream look.

Cheers - JJ

Hi Justin,

My understanding was that Dan was an employee of Alex Moulton, and was selling the car on his behalf.

But the cream leathered cars do have cream carpets, I'm less sure if they have cream headlinings as well.
