I bought a late low mileage engine and box some years ago for £400.00 but didn't use it as I sold the car, I sold the engine a couple of years ago for £150.00 :( I bought another on off ebay minus the pump for about £6.50! I was the only bidder, it was in Newcastle mind, but thats fine with me, an excuse for a couple of days away and see another part of the country. I picked up a 1.8 ford diesel on the way back in Derbyshire for my sons truck, all in the back of an XM estate!

I would put a short cut to the the item on your desktop so that you can contact him when the auction has finished and he hasn't sold it, and make him a much more sensible offer.

It seems to be in Ireland, or is that where you are?

You could probably buy a whole car for less.
There are several on Ebay for less than that now, at least two of them are 2.1's.

The engine is indeed in Ireland. The seller is the guy who I bought my 2.1 XM from. He is somewhat optomistic with his pricing... Considering you can get a XM around around the engine for the same money.

Hi, Bringing another doner car home whould probably result in my sleeping in the workshop! I might get away with just an engine, I still have a Seat which I bought for the VW 1.9Tdi engine from my Passat days. Are all 2.1 td engines fitted to XMs the same? I seem to think there was a change at some point. Kit

After January '96 they were fitted with the EPIC electronic pump which although slightly more efficient are not as reliable as the mechanical pumps and very expensive to repair. The best pump is the Bosch mechanical without a keypad.

Hi Peter, Just my luck then, my car is 1995 with an Epic. BTW how accurate do you consider the dashboard computer? Since my speedo reads about 15% fast I have suspicions about the MPG shown. When I have a complete exhaust it is pretty constant at 42mpg for local running arround and high fourties on a long run.

Hi Kit

Yours must have got from the production line to the showroom pretty smartish, three of mine are '96 and have mechanical pumps, I know Colin's is a '95 and has EPIC but I thought perhaps that was because his is LHD. Mine were made quite well back in '95.

Your MPG sounds about right if you are a fairly gentle driver, mine averages over 40 mpg with 50 + on a longish journey but then I don't drive much over 60 mph or 2,000rpm.

Peter.

Interesting, my October 96 (P) 2.1 is a manual Bosch. I supsect that it was kept in the same field as Peter's cars for a long time.
