No, not stupid at all! I'd say the XM is a truly fabulous car and probably especially so in V6 petrol form. I can one in my future again, but don't tell my wife!

(P.S. I sold the C6)

Once again well done Ben for taking on the car and we look forward to further updates and photos. It was good to hear from you also James and that is sad news about sale of the C6! With regards, Matthew T.

Dont think the sale of a c6 is bad news. Think its a good move. . They are bloody daammm expensive cars to look after.. just like c5 x7 (or mk.3 if you wish) are also stupid expensive to fix..

Anyway. Ive seen some pics on fb and looks potentially nice. Cant beleve its a 12v manual on such a late mk.1 model.. scarse find or what

Regarding the C6: I would say it was fabulous with the exception of the low speed ride which the huge wheels ruined.

Also, although I spent a lot of money at the beginning on it, it was then incredibly reliable and not much really went wrong with it. I think I was lucky because I had the petrol engined one, running on LPG. I personally wouldn't touch the diesel (which is 99% of them) as it is far too complicated an engine. Also, far too loud in comparison to the petrol (I drove one and thought 'no thank you').

I could say exactly the same about the XM I had actually which cost a lot to begin with then became reliable. I'm not sure why Julian doesn't have it on the road to be honest.

I've trimmed down cars to just one 480 now (well and the camper) in an effort to save money. It's basically a restoration job. To give Ben some confidence, this is what I started with, which was shut away in this garage for 20 years:

Then to this in 3 months, at a car show

It did all go wrong on a trip to Scotland when a rotten core plug let go! Engine out and doing a thorough refurbishment of the front end now. So, when you are doing the likely rotten cooling system Ben, consider changing the core plugs if you have the engine out.

I don't doubt the reliability.. The petrol v6 engines seem a bit less emplex then the 2.7 hdi engines..

Price up a front bumper... Or a bonnet.. If you can find them.. For Xm there's plenty about..
