A white one on Ebay......almost the one I'm looking for

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

I'm with Dean, bring a new header tank, fill it with water, bring a 5 gallon drum with you, and see how near you get home with it, you may be surprised!

But how would they know? Do they actually check with the DVLA?

Just drive it with the header tank cap loose, it will hardly boil any water off in 100 miles or so and won't pressurise so won't blow it out.

As the others have said, you should be able to wing it home. Last petrol I bought was sold with the same issues and that went from N. Wales to Brum with only about five top up stops. Even the worst one I had go --- a 2.1 that gave out suddenly and quite big time near Carlisle made it back eventually courtesy of a stop and cool at every service station and some water on board just in case. Before deciding though, it might be sensible to check whether there is any water in the oil. That might signify more grief than the job is worth.

I find autos are a difficult bastard to limp a sick engine home over a sizeable distance but I cannot see the 2.0i being that fragile.
Guess it does all depend on the severity of the original water loss and how much baking the head has had but the uncertainty would
certainly be nailed were it viewed before bidding or auction close. TBH, if it had been a manual I may have been seriously considering
this myself - lovely miles/condition and service background.Could be a bargain and a straightforward rewarding repair - least you'd know
all the things you'd be worried about on a new purchase are done and behind you as you start to use it.

It does look a very nice car, such low mileage and looks in good condition. Although needs a good polish! Obviously been an outside car judging by its yellow headlights.

The SX isnt a bad spec, apart from missing the electric seats and AC its got everything you need. Infact the heater is a great idea, dual zone heating. Less windows to pack up too! Though that looks like an earlier car which doesnt have a passenger air bag.

Id say get a header tank and see how it goes, you might find the gasket is ok.

I'd also go for trying a spare header tank, doens't make sense it's blown up bec of overpressurising -unless we talk huge pressure differential that the header cap couldn't get rid of quickly enough?-

'Course it's strange to get a broken tank on a 51k car -mine blew at 160k- but could always happen!

Have it, I say, if only for the mileage -and the pretty color!

cheers

Hi George

Somewhere in the casual look through the pile of Citroen workshop manuals aquired recently I recall a technical note about checking rad cap centre for failure.
In this state the cap fails to vent at the correct pressure. Will see if I can find it again and post.
