1998 XM near Hereford

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Not wishing to pick hole in the listing or anything, but he starts it off with 'one of the last XM Estates' for a Jan 98 R reg. There may not be many, but there are 2000 W reg cars out there and I'm sure there will be a few estates in there.

Hi Rowan

I suspect the seller might be right.
I think XM estate production ceased for the 1999 model year.
It was only the car production for the last two years.

But even if production ceased, there must have been a few left in fields waiting to be sold. Hadn't they only just finished registering some 95/96 manufacture cars at that point?

I guess it depends how you interpret 'one of the last'. In terms of numbers it probably is in the last x estates where x is a fairly small number, but compared to registration figures for many models of car you could say the same thing about my 2.5 which was one of the first! I would interpret 'one of the last' as 'you won't find a newer one' and reserve it for the 2000 registrations in terms of saloons, even if there were less than 50 or whatever the figure is in that category.

Many years ago (before I had an XM) I found a web page listing the new registrations of all the different models by year. Assuming it was correct it would give a good guide to things like that, but I've never been able to find it since.

I think the latest estate ive seen was a 99 T reg car, i cant remember seeing an XM estate newer than that one. Although an R reg isnt really one of the last ones. There are a few hatchbacks around with W reg and even X reg though.

It looks really very nice, no towbar either so its probably had an easy life, very nice conditon and a good spec with the climate control, no cruise though.

Very nice car, obviously very well looke after. 8-)

If it's just beyond your budget Colin, yet is the nearest one you've seen and would fit the bill perfectly for you
why not have it out with the seller over the price. He isn't going to be beating people off with a stick or have a
melting telephone from all the emails and calls and as with every asking price is pitching into the unknown with
a speculative value that may have little semblance to the current market going rate - something he's avoiding
by only having a fixed no offers auction rather than open bidding...

Go and have a looksee and give him an offer and listen to what the seller's thoughts are on the car - he doesn't
want to keep the car any longer and may need to be realistic on the value.

Looks like he already has two estates cars, he might be wanting rid of this one quickly, it might be worth while you emailing the seller and see if he will lower his price.

It would possibly gain more interest if it had not been a TCT, so you might be in with a chance. Although that is his starting bid and not a buy it now price, so i expect thats possibly the very minimum he would take for the car, he mentions 27 people watching it and it still has 6 days to run. At a guess i think he might just get his starting price and possibly more.

Just read about the towbar, my earlier comment might not be true then

Always a lot of XM watchers on ebay. That includes me just watching out of interest.
Very few, if any, turn into bidders though.
Might be worth mentioning this to the seller.
Most sellers though do not believe this until the auction end shows the real intent (or lack of intent)to bid.
