Spotted this in the current CCC magazine if anyone is interested in a project! I believe this is the car owned by Paul Smith who earlier posted about body panels after the car was badly damaged at a garage. As I recall the body colour is the rather less common Mercury, or Silicon Grey. Hopefully someone might take it on and rather interesting being such a late example. With regards, Matthew T.

Shame there's no pictures of the damage as it could either be a fairly easy repair or could cost a fortune.

Re-shelling the car wouldn't be a great idea was it would no longer be a genuine 24v XM. I'd imagine that the insurance would be heavily loaded then as it'd be classed as a modified car.

If it wasn't so far from here I'd be tempted to have a look but hey ho.

David.

I noticed this too Matthew. I did wonder if you might be tempted to snap it up!!!
It must be fixable. A new door is easy enough, just need to pull out the wheel arch providing there isn't too much structural deformation underneath.

That's the problem, Russ, without pictures you just don't know what it needs without seeing it in the flesh.

As the ad says - "spares or rebody" - that speaks volumes to me and at the very least I would want detailed photos to show what it did need.

I have been in contact with Paul (way before he was looking to sell the car!) It was parked in his garage when another car crashed across his garden and into his garage damaging the XM within! Talk about unlucky. He has been searching for rear body panels to undertake the repair for some time but failed. If you have a viable shell with front end damage or rot and are handy with a welder then this could be a great car. Paul is a genuine guy. I think the reason it was in the garage was because he was having some issues with the fuel injection but don't quote me on that. It sounded to me that the car was in excellent and well cared for condition prior to its mishap.

Could be the parts needed to get that 605 in the road if the engine is good...

DONT BE DAFT Will! Why would we want to return a Peugeot to the road when Pug owners have killed SO many XM's! :D :D

At worse Ive got a H reg XM shell remains here that someone clever could do something with no doubt!!

They could do that but why do all that chopping for a car that you know would never be perfect enough again? If it's going to die it could make at least a good few other cars good again and we know the pug just needs an engine and a little work to go off to win shows and the like :)

Because Id rather the XM then a 605... as its a better car with better suspension and is more distictive. A 605 just looks like a big 405, dont get me wrong, I like the 605 but not as much as the XM..
