WTD - early xm..

Hi guys,

My brother in law has set his mind on buying an early xm once his BMW has sold. Budget would be between £500 and £800 i think and it would need to be a solid car and reliable. Preferably a diesel also.....

So basically he wants something like mine :P

It doesnt matter on the paint condition or the mileage as long as its solid......

Does anyone know of anything knocking around?

P.s. ive spoken to Paul about the xm he is doing up but this may be out of budget....but then maybe not? Depends on how much the BMW goes for.

WHY?

Hi Vince,

Yes, the Other J reg Base D Manual one I have... Paint a scruffy, but its fine underneath, Ive had a look and decided its worth dooing, But YET again, it wont be ready!

It will need 4x tyres, 4x spheres, and a drivers strut top (IIRC).. Its actually very tidy inside and has 168k.
Runs brilliantly quietly - and the clutch feels good too... The worse offending thing is the rear passenger door, the skin bottom on the outside has rotted away along the bottom.. Rather a rare thing..

But I can only do one thing at a time!

No issue Paul, i think he needs to manage his expectations on finding a good early xm....they dont grow on trees so he isnt going to just fall into one within a week or so ;)

Jim, yes very excited if he gets one...that will make two in the family and he is already very interested in the whole CCC community and car shows etc :) Would be nice for us to look after the cars together, give us something more in common and will no doubt result in me seeing more of my sister and brother in law ;)

In a rare moment of madness i offered for him to use my xm for a while once the BMW is sold as it doesnt do much during the week :? I dont like other people driving my cars when im not in with them, but then citroen xm s should be experienced by many more people i think :)

Early cars are becoming slim.. and most certainly early manual diesels.. as once the auto box option came in 1991/2 (J reg) most got that option...

Thats what made the SD come my way. Later Bosch car, but manual box.

What I DID notice last friday though, having the Lucas Mechanical car running and the Bosch Mechanical running at the same time, the Lucas car was quieter and "Free'er" and the Bosch was louder sounding...

I also find the Lucas pumped car to be considerably quicker, though also find it noisier.

I think freeing the brakes off on the Cobalt car has made that easier to make move though. ;)

Hi

after much debating I have decided to sell my series 1 turbo d manual. Its a lovely car and did me well transporting me to uni and back everyday, but I now have a dyane as my everyday car and cant justify having a big car when only doing low miles in town driving.

its a maroon coloured one, bodys quite good, engine and box are good, done quite high miles of 254,000 sadly.

I would put 12 months new M.O.T on it

Im looking for £700 for the car.

Good luck with the sale and quite a rare beat with a manual box! Regards, Matthew T.

Perfect for you're brother Vince! I'd rather wait for Pauls; I do loads of miles (nearly 20000 a year) and like the idea of starting off with a fresh clutch and HG!
