2.1 TD and petrol turbo intercooler

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

2.1 TD and petrol turbo intercooler

Post by kenhall » Fri Dec 09, 2011 9:08 am

Any owners of an early (pre 1995) 2.1TD or petrol turbo with a crumbling, salt corroded, leaking intercooler (as happened to mine) might be interested in this Valeo replacement offered at a fraction of the normal price and open to offers.

Did you snap it up Robert?! £40 - bargain. I think Citroen ask about 10 times that.

I did Ken, it was too cheap not to buy it and hold in stock. I have a couple of keeper 2.1 TD Xms so having a back up is always useful. AEP list the same part for approx £145 and its NFP on Service Citroen.

I have an almost complete set of spares in the field - if they haven't rusted away by the time I need them :(

Ive got a couple about the place.. from a TCT and I bought a cooler and rad from a 2.1 TD from someone both in good order, if they are a crumbling thing I best be keeping them preserved..

The inter cooler from the last 2.1 I broke wasn't worth keeping, it wasn't bust but was corroded enough to bot be worth putting on another car.

On the 1996 one that I replaced the aluminium finning crumbled to the touch and also some of the steel tabs holding on the plastic manifold at one end had rusted away allowing it to leak as revealed by the large visible oil stain.

Was it full of leaves in there Ken? ive found that can be a bit of an issue on some of them and speed up the intercooler corrosion.

Hi Dean,

It wasn't too bad really, just a layer of crud where the bottom plastic cover sits on the subframe cross member, although I should mention that this area was thoroughly cleaned out a few years back when I replaced the leaking original radiator. In hindsight it would have been better if Citroen had spaced the radiator and intercooler off the cross member a bit more to permit leaves etc to be flushed out with a hose. Cross member corrosion would also have been reduced.
