Wanted- height corrector diaphragm

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Wanted- height corrector diaphragm

Post by SilverXM » Sat Jun 12, 2021 4:31 pm

Does anyone know a UK source for the height corrector diaphragm (part number 5410732)? They seem readily available on the continent for a few Euro, so I’m reluctant to pay the price Citroen Classics or Chevronics want for a whole overhaul kit.

Do Citroen still sell them? If so, they wil be the cheapest option.

Unfortunately they don’t appear to. The first dealership told me there was no such thing and then started talking nonsense about adjustable headlamps. The second found the part on his system, but said it was marked as discontinued.

Orders from "the continent" may be your option, then!
If you are going to the trouble of removing a HC, you might as well give it a complete refurb.
I found one (full kit) immediately for €36 inc tax.

You could try Pleiades, but may well find they are no cheaper.

https://www.franzose.de/en/Home/ have them for about 23e, but I'm not sure how much postage will be.

Also see Dr Xantia: https://www.drxantia.com/index.php/en/p ... epair-kits A bit cheaper, and as Turkey was never in the EU, shipping is probably not disrupted.

Citroen Dealerships (those that are left) really have not got on-board with the "Citroen Heritage" thing have they ....that and the removal of access to Citroen Service is showing it up to be just a marketing lie.

My local one said we cannot supply these parts and then promptly told me they would not tell me the part number because "we don't do that to stop people ordering from somewhere else, against policy"

If you need a part number, Alasdair, just ask here. A few of is have access to Servicebox for Citroen.

I think many dealers have always been protective of parts business, and reluctant to dispense part numbers.
What I have noticed is awareness of some of the operations of PSA - eg Heritage / L'Aventure / Origins - is pretty much non-existent, which doesn't say much for internal communications. I had to call Citroen UK HQ (Coventry) this week, and finally spoke with someone reasonanly technical in Customer Service. When the conversation homed in on a part not for some reason appearing on Parts diagrams, and BX and XM were mentioned, the comment was "I'd need to find out what those models look like, as I don't recognise them." The guy was otherwise very helpful, and knew his way around Servicebox. I suggested a quick and fun way of looking at the cars would be to click on Citroen Origins. "What's that?" was the reply. While still on the phone, he obviously did click, and was amazed. And this is UK HQ, no less - and Coventry, who were visited by a thousand old Citroens in 2019, iirc.

It's nice to hear the operative was helpful and communicative, but we need to remember they are employed by the Global operation, Stellantis, to serve their millions of existing, and future customers.
Their operation isn't, and never will be, geared up to deal with the extremely rare enquiry from a customer with an obsolete product. It neither fits with their Corporate aims, nor is commercially viable.

It's useful that the diagrams are electronically available on Service-box at all.
Assuming all the original microfiche have been transcribed, these parts must have been missing on those.
Was the operative able to refer the issue back to the IT support team, for investigation, or not?
