Hi All,
Sadly I think the time has come when I will have to let EDD my XM Premiere go. The MOT & Tax runs out at the end of the month and the speedo no longer works so it won't pass plus there are a few other jobs which need doing like replacing the height lever (I have a replacement) but my Citreon guru/mechanic has now moved away and no one else locally is inclined to take on the job of getting the old speedo cable out and then trying to source a new one and fitting.

There are a few other niggly issues listed below which while they don't prevent it being driven would need looking at.

1. Engine Auto Diagnosis light is permamantly on. This came on a few years ago, at the time the nearest Citreon garage said it was probably nothing to worry about and they could reset it for about £80 but I never got around to doing it.

2. Antilock Braking System light is permanently on, this only came on about a year or so ago after the garage where I take it for its MOT dropped the fuel tank to wield a re-inforcement to the rear jacking point and split one of the breather pipes when they put it back so fuel spewed out when I next filled up after which the light came on and stayed on ever since.

3. Passenger electric window sticks and is difficult to get it to go back up so we don't use it. I tried stripping the door panel and lubricating the works but still not good.

4. Electric Sun roof doesn't work, motor gone?

5. Fuel guage not working, probably the sender.

6. Locks bounce, again tried cleaning the passenger one when I did the window but it didn't help.

7. Offside front wing has a dent, needs knocking out and respray.

Other than this it still drives very well and has never let me down and its not too long ago since I replaced all the spheres and the exhaust system. Tyres are good, new front one fitted last year, so if anyone is interested in taking it on as a project or for breaking then please send me a PM.

Cheers
Peter

Hi Peter,
Just in case you do find you need a good Citroen mechanic, call Tom at SGG Cranleigh (on the Dunsfold aerodrome business park).
He has years of experience with this era of Citroen.

Hi Chris,
Hope alls well and thanks for the information on Tom. Problem is these days getting to places as my wife doesn't drive and I doubt if Tom would fancy a trek down to sunny Sussex, also the list of problems just seems to get longer as the years go by. Having said that its with a heavy heart to let EDD go, we only bought him as a stop gap for a month or two after we sold our Grand Cherokee on Ebay to help finance the building of a Landrover Defender which we went through Africa in for 7 years, but by the time we were due to leave I liked the XM so much I didn't want to let it go so had to convince an old friend to look after him while we were away. The guy we bought him off was the designer of the congestion charge system in London and a bit of a mad boffin and he'd kept all the old service records.
Cheers
Peter

Hi Sageman, I know its not checked during the test but the problem is the odometer reading will be the same as when it was last tested so surely that's going to be a red flag?

to the best of my knowlage it is not an issue i have had three cars pass with neither speedo or odometer working
although of corse it wont hurt to ask beforehand

if this is the only thing you worry it will fail on i would put it through one myself if at all possable due to ease of passing the car on

Good to hear it went through...
Are you intending to fix the car up now?
