George, i think they are quite expensive yes, they certainly have the 3 dimples on, although im going to pressure test them as im not sure if or when they were replaced, as the seller wasnt sure which ones had been replaced and only 5 of them had been. Im not sure if the dimple ones i can see were the ones which were replaced or not. So to make sure they are right they will be checked, although it does ride nice, if not quite so soft as the hatchbakcs, but that could be due to the fact estates have slightly thinker anti roll bars, well i think they do?

Id say the estate rides similar to the hatch, although slightly stiffer but then we keep a close eye on the hatch spheres and regass them.

Chris,

Can I ask, where did u get the valves to regass the spheres, and what equipment do u use to regass?

I'm very interested in getting to regass mine, I think it's silly to throw away a sphere. Mostly interested on getting valves, then I'd find somebody to regass for me.

Thanks
George
Ah well, im not sure, as this used to be my dads job - a Citroen specialist, we still have left over regassing valves from then. So i will ask him where he gets them and who from, they are from this country though im sure.

Im not sure if they are like the ones in the link, they look a bit different, they have two parts, the larger part screws into the top of the sphere, that has a screw thread which the regassing tool screws into, then when its regassed there is a screw in cap which goes in there. Its really easy like this and means spheres can actually be regassed on the car if you wish. Although obviously if its been a while since they were done they need pressure testing first.

The little pressure tester we have was made from, i think its a GS suspension strut, with a bottle jack under it to build up the pressure. Then we just buy bottles of gas, they last for ages, and use our recharging tool from there. Very simple really.

Fact is many people stopped doing sphere recharging because spheres were available from other courses so cheaply, almost for the cost of a sphere to be recharged.

However we have never used any other spheres other than genuine Citroen items, which can be expensive to buy new, although if you keep their pressures right they never need replacing.

WHile my dad was a Citroen specialist, he had a few problems when people supplied their own after market shperes to be fitted, some didnt last any time, some went pop straight away etc. So he soon stopped fitting peoples spheres and only fitted genuine Citroen spheres which he supplied to the customers. SInce then we have only ever used genuine items, and why not, its not as if they need replacing often if your regassing them.

Since we still have all of the things to do sphere regassing its really easy for us to do, and costs very little. We do still do the odd sphere regassing for some people though, as its hard to find people who do it. But if we didnt have access to this it would get a bit expensive replacing spheres with the genuine ones. We usually say spheres should be regassed every 30K miles or 3 years, which is generally true. Though these dimple ones last an awful lot longer.

Chris.

citroenmad, those valves sound just like the Valprex ones...

Neat idea for the sphere testing tool, I was wondering about making one from a hydro pump and pressure gauge...if I ever get round to buying an XM...

I agree with you about the geniuine spheres lasting a lot longer and riding better.

For anyone interested Woodlinkin Citroen centre still does recharging...he said £10 per sphere.

Yes they possibly are valprex ones then.

Just been to collect the estate from the garage fitting the cambelt kit and water pump. They had it in since yesterday, apparently it was a bit of a job to do, but thats done now.

Although its got a split CV boot, so that needs replacing now but the garage cant fit it in for two weeks, so we might do that.

So i still cant really use it :|

If the CV joints fit together similarly to a BX one, instead of undoing the hub nut and wheel carrier, just undo the bottom ball joint and give the outer lip of the joint a tap to part it whilst pulling the wheel carrier away. It should come apart as it's held with a snap ring.

Saves undoing the OMG you tight little m-f hub nut. ;)

As you are talking spheres....

Mi XM is running with one GS sphere and one unmarked one. Yes, bad. I want to buy Citroen 3-dimple ones. Are they the same as Xantias?

Thanks.

Well, the old gsf sphere table pdf

www.lozian.co.uk/sphere_table.pdf

lists the sphere volume/pressure/jet sizes as well as the genuine Citroen sphere part number.
I accept it doesn't show non hydractive Xm but would you get these spheres anywhere!?!
