Green 1993 XM on Ebay

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Hi all!

I know it's a lot of money for a few of you lot ;) but remember I've been looking for an XM to use everyday since 3 months now, and every month of driving the V6 costs me about £100 as compared to driving a 2lt of 2.1td. In other words, I am the definition of "desperate"; you, are not.

Also, lately, I was getting used with XMs going for high prices -I lost that silver 2lt that went for £986 (but I'm much happier with the affair I'm getting for that diesel!). And I was ready to pay £440 for a "good-base, lots-of-work" 2lt, so I'm hyper-happy with this one.

Also a good motivation: this XM is a real beauty. I've only seen Continental S1 24v PRVs in this precise guise, which I always found distinctive. The interior is beautiful also -leather looks like new. BTW is it the black or grey hue tan??

Finally, you know what, I was really getting a bit sick of looking for a car. I'm not used to that process, and with every lead I spent alot of energy thinking about how it'd be and what I'd do to it etc. Last week I have had an offer to buy a Brava :? for £100 and was ready to give in and say "f**k a second XM", I'll just "do my job" and be rational.

Anybody want to guess how much my max bid was for this one....?? Only the thought of loosing it again for £20 made me increase and increase without thinking rationally anymore.

"Bret", not dealt with himyet, he pretends he doesn't exist, and I'm also very busy to worry about him. I should contact him this week though, and finish that with a nice red feedback -or grey?

Yes, I'll take alot of care of it, and make it a nice XM with time. :) :)

I have to thank everybody here for their help, it'd have been a totally different purchase without your input -I'm not sure I'd have bid on it. THANK YOU!!!!

No worries Pete! Might off-load it in your yard if it's a heap    sure this will make u happy!! :D

Presentation-photos when it's back home!

cheers
G

I was on the phone to the DVLA the other week as I am in the process of importing an XM.

The car was due to arrive into Southampton and I was enquiring as to how I could get it home.

I was told "As long as the car is booked in for an MOT you can drive it in a direct route to the MOT station, if you go off the direct route to get fuel then you can be done". When I asked about driving it 450 miles, she said "As long as it's a direct route."

Personally I'd fly down get the car, book it in for an MOT and drive it home.

Just because it's been off the road for 5 years doesn't mean it won't make it, but for peace of mind I'd definitely join the AA.

Congrats G, it was a struggle but we're sure you won't regret it. Will serve you well for a long while yet for the sake of a few easy fixes.
One of which... is that the glove compartment catch is broken (might need a ram although it could just be disconnected) there is one on Fleabay at the moment if you don't have a spare and they're getting hard to find. Can't remember seeing anything else missing or broken.
You'll be pleased to know that the interior is not only black, but with a clean and some hyde food it will be like new. No sign of wear or damage to the seats that I can remember (not heated though). The interior is the best preserved part of the car and it's where you spend the time. The engine is the best sounding 2.1 I've heard.
Will be following your progress with interest.

Best of luck, Rodders and Pat.

Re David's remarks, I think you'll find that the situation is slightly different for a newly imported car than for a British registered one with expired legals and SORN.
I used to help ferry imported cars from Dover every week for a friend (from Belgium, hence no number plates). We spoke to police at services on the M2 several times and as long as you have all the import and duty paid documentation and insurance, you could take the vehicle home to get MOT prior to registration.
Recent unpleasant experiences in relation to Road Tax,MOT,Insurance, SORN and Number Plate Recognition cameras ( even when you can eventually prove not to be in the wrong ) would make me warn against trying to "run the gauntlet". The DVLA have electronic eyes everywhere and this sort of thing makes easy pickings for their coffers. I now scan and copy all my documents, receipts and tax discs (especially if you return one for a refund), sending copies seems to be the only way to get them to back off when their "never lying" cameras do precisely that.
Oh, and please don't even consider driving 400 miles on those rear tyres......... :o

Lecture over, spleen vented, I'll crawl back under my rock now.

Rodders.

Thanks again R+P, this is getting to sound way too good to be true!!!!!!!!!! (and yes, I'll put new rear tyres before I set off!)

btw, who will tell me what's the diesel pump type on this XM??? Is it "the good one"  ????

David, yes I was planning to book it in for an MOT tomorrow...I really wanted to take a detour in the area though...girlfriend is coming along! Seems I won't risk it. Indeed have to ask if car is sorn though, I assumed that it's not since it seems he kept it in his property.

George,

The car will be SORN.

Even if I am keeping cars on our land they have to be SORN'd. If they aren't they are classed as un-licensed which then gets you eligible for a nice fine.

Update:

The SORN ran out on 1st June 2009 so at the moment it's currently showing as unlicensed.
