17,000 mile, one owner 2 litre S1 manual

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Hi all

Just noted this is rated as 115bhp at the "performance+economy" tab.

Surely this is not right? Implies it's a carburator-version?

Or am I wrong to think that only the 130hp (122bhp I think?) version of the 2lt were ever sold in the UK??

cheers

Hi George

The carbed version was rather limp at 105bhp then came magnetti marrelli (cant spell that  ) which was efi but kept the mechanical ignition this produced 115 to 122bhp, getting better. Finaly for the 8v's was the Bosch motronic MP 5.1 this engine produced between 125 and 130bhp strangely though the cat equiped model pushed out the full 130bhp.
Then of course came the 16v which produced 135bhp.
My guess is that this is the magnetti marrelli with efi only but in manual form will be lovely.

Hi Dean

Thanks, so you say that the UK has also seen the 2 lesser versions of the 8v other than the Bosh multipoint injection??

Why u think that's the MagnettiMarelli, because of year?

Hi George

Yes we got all three (well four if you count the turbo) versions of the 8v here although i cant see many carbed ones where sold or have servived so assume anything mk1 to have Magnetti and from 92 onwards (mk1.5) to have the Bosch as a rough guestimation.

Actualy i think ive missed one somewhere, i think the xm 8v also came with Jetronic at some point too which would be the 115bhp, magnetti is 122bhp or the other way around........................my memory is awefull so i will have a check to be sure and come back to you on that.

Thanks Dean, I learnt something new today -thought they hadn't dared to sell the lesser specs to the UK. But in German ebay I also notice many (most) 2lts are rated 115hp and was wondering what the h...?

So the seller is probably correct, 115bhp in this XM.

cheers

Yes this will be 115bhp, its only the later mk1 that got the bosch management and more power, the 115bhp is by far the more common one i would think. Still cant really find anything about jetronic but i know im not imagining it as its in the haynes manual  , kind of irrelivant anyway.
The Xm you are buying with the siezed A/C pump will have the 130bhp Bosch management though, or are you thinking of this one now :D ;)

To be honest D, I'm thinking of anything, as the seller doesn't seem to want to help with trying another belt. First he had the flu, last thing he tells me is he can't find any belt in stock   . I'm close to decide I've waisted enough money and time on him. He can keep it if he likes, and sell it to whoever wants to buy it -sure some billionaire will drop in his barn one day and will want to uplift this XM for £2,000 and spend another £2,000 to make it perfect, and then put it in his personal museum of Citroens. Anybody else, forget it, £440 is already over the high side for this car as it is.

This seller has been mysterious since first contact through ebay, while sale was on, and not only to me, and I'll always remain with the question of what is his problem. I wish he told me "look I don't want to deal with you because XYZ, let's cancel the sale"! As is, sometime next week, he'll sure get a nice, big, red feedback on ebay -my personal first!

Even thinking of that green 2.1td in Poole. Problem is the risk of driving back -yes I'm mad-. Have to think how I can sort out smthing with AA in case it strands me. I see they cover u 14 days after purchase. That's a problem. And I guess they don't cover a car without MOT anyway.

cheers

I'm relieved George that you're rethinking this. Maybe Peter wouldn't mind checking out the Poole car for you? You would be sure of getting a good assessment.

Derek

PS Late as usual, I've just checked the other posting and he's already done it for you

Go for it George, as long as the price doesn't climb too high. I know I'm a bit of a chancer but I'd get it MOTd, climb in it and drive off. If it breaks down - and I think that's pretty unlikely - cost of recovery would probably be less than hiring a flatbed, and a lot less hassle with the problem of returning the hired flatbed.

Hi Gents

I dont think the car itself warrants being ovoided but the seller SEEMS a bit useless and even if the car was the best out there, if the seller seems shifty or sours the deal in some way its enough to put you off the goods in question and always leave you feeling like you have been conned whenever it gives trouble even if it isnt the sellers fault.
Good luck whatever one you go for though George.
