Speedo Cable

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Yes Jim, excellent idea. We have a solution, so might as well get a load ordered. Might be able to get the price per cable down a bit too.

As I mentioned earlier, there are slightly different fittings on S1 cables Russ, so might be worth keeping that in mind if a batch is to be ordered. My early V6 and 2.0 turbo models do not have the same cables. With regards, Matthew T.

Ah, that does cause a slight issue.
Anyone know what a 2.1 has?! Knowing my luck, it's the least common one.

Is it not down to where the speed sensor for the suspension is?? some have it on the gearbox built into the cable outlet and some have a small sensor between the joins by the bulkhead where it comes out...

That is quite correct Paul, so yours should be the latter type Russ! Regards, Matthew T.

Never seen a mid cable sensor.
There are 3 types of gearbox speedo drive sensor.
All are mechanically interchangable and not just XM's but most PSA vehicles plus other makes.
Only the seperate drive cog is vehicle specific.
The original gear box drive sensor was cable drive only.
Then they produced a dual one cable and electronic.
Finally a version with just the electronics output.
In my experience the electronics part of the dual one is particularly unreliable in service.
Used like this the cable drive port should have a rubber stopper fitted.
Water ingress to the electronics is common even with the correct bung.

Mine's mid-cable...

There she is, just to the left and just below the LHM Reservoir...

Hi all, here's the illustrated parts clip from CSW for S1s, i replaced the upper cable on my old SED with a mid sensor, a BE3 g/box, back in '98.

This is mine. I think it might be like yours Jim.....

Actually, looking at them they are slightly different. The sensor plug is the other way round on mine.

That's the same Russ, except yours is upside down compared to mine... You have the Antipodean version. Good job it doesn't drive the speedo or it would read backwards...

Once the speedo cables are disconnected at each end you'll find there's a lot of leeway as to where the sensor can go - the electrical cable has plenty of spare length on it- or at least it does in mine - and this makes speedo cable lengths less than critical...
