I see yet more low mileage cars appearing on Ebay and Autotrader, two in the last couple of days - even diesels, and why are they all Mk1s?. Where have they all been hiding? and is there an cache of Mk2's somewhere waiting to be released?

Exactly Peter - I hope some forum members are going to be getting themselves a nice early Christmas present!
I'm going to have to delete all my saved searches that find XMs for sale at this rate - it's too tempting!
Purely from observing sales over the past few years - I do get the impression the Mk 1 cars are less rust prone*, so perhaps are better represented among the survivors now? Still doesn't explain why they're all suddenly available though.
*Having said that - I reckon the XM is one of the few cars where I'd be more happy to have to weld it than tackle a multitude of mechanical maladies.

Upon reflection I think that they produced more Mk1's that could have something to do with it.

Peter has hit the nail on the head.
The production figures are on this site: http://www.citroenet.org.uk/passenger-c ... xm-12.html
Almost 1/3 of XMs ever made were produced in 1990. Almost 2/3 of XMs ever made were made by the end of 1991.
