If never heard of such.xmexclusive wrote:
If Citroen built a few "activa" XM's for test and evaluation purposes then perhaps some still exist.

Reminds me, only thing I'm positive about is Citroen having tested the Hydractive on CX's and given it to good clients -they are called CX smthing, can't remember, like "CX Regamo" or smthing-. I have a road test with photos in french -there are still a few about. A proper CX otherwise, just with a 3rd sphere on each axle -the ecu was in the passenger cabin, afair. That must have been an amazing car.

Exactly. You'd actually make the XM even softer with an Activa system (when on "soft" mode). Then it'd become just as hard as it normally is with the system on "hard" mode.Dean wrote:You need to get an Activa then Peter, no rollbars are conected during normal driving which means they waft very well indeedPeter.N. wrote:I want to make mine ride softer not harder![]()

Whoever has driven an XM with an antiroll bar link off, knows what is possible... unbeatable softness!

Re: Spares, on IOW!!
Yep, the Activa's handling superiority has been confirmed beyond doubt again and again, in various tests, in various countries, against various opponents.... it outdoes 4x4 cars in slaloming...it really is a pinnacle, talking of suspension systems, and yet only a few Citroen fans know such a thing ever existed -and in a humble family car tooDean wrote:I forgot about the large number of subframe variations for the MK1 xm.
The Activa though does not give an illusion of better handling, it is far superior to the xm and will outcorner it by a substantial margin, in fact it will keep up with most of the sportier suspension setups available today's sportscars with none of the discomfort,
D
I have a french test that compares different cars on comfort (they measured vertical accelerations etc), and the Activa measures practically as well as the Hydractive and non-hydractive Xantias too!
I have to say though, I was reading on the new McClaren's suspension (it is partially hydropneumatic!!!!), and they seem to have achieved the same objective of comfort and holding combined in one car, but with a simpler configurations than Citroen! All about how they connected the hydraulics between left and right side... I really felt immense respect for the firm when I realised what they'd done.

Re: Spares, on IOW!!
100% Correct!jorgy wrote:like "CX Regamo" or smthing
It was indeed called the "Regamo" and from the (IIRC) 12 that were made, only two are known to have survived. One is with Citroen in Paris, while the other is in a private collection called "Citromuseum" also in France. It was called the "Regamo" because the "Reg" part stands for "Regulation", and the "AMO" part stands for amortisseurs (suspension dampers). 6 of the cars were kept by Citroen themselves, while the other 6 where sent to dealers for testing. After this, they leased them to high mileage drivers and after 30K they were converted back to standard and sold on as 'normal' CXs.
As for layout, the main mount is under the bonnet and on the right back chassis while the control unit lives to the right of the steering wheel and the computer is under the right seat.
That's all the info. that I've got on it, and here's some pics that I found too:

Re: Spares, on IOW!!
I'll see if I find that article I have on the CX Regamo.
Building an Hydractive CX should not very realisable, bit of plumbing needed, but who knows if the parameters of the ECU will fit the CX.
Once I was talking to somebody who had plumbed in his DS just the hydractive block off an XM to make use of the antiroll feature of the little ball that's in there. So it was limiting the side-to-side flow of LHM -he said it made a difference.

Wow
Talk of a Hydractive CX and an XM Activa. Wow...
I'm not sure an XM Activa would be good.. Goes against the character a bit but it would be fun, that's for sure...
I'd love to see the expressions on the faces of people seeing an XM out-handle say, a Pug 205GTi...
