Excellent news on the job Vince
There. I told you, as many others did, that it would be fine

Re: Vince's 2.1td xm .... the winter fix up
Thanks JiM
Well the usual trials of "older" car ownership presented themselves today
This morning i wound down the drivers side window for a minute and then the front windows decided to pack in
Fuse checked, = OK. Window switches removed and refitted = OK, so we had to drive the 40 miles or so down the M56 with the window half open
Linda said to me....how are you going to fix it? I replied.....trust me they will just start working again on their own...it will be an earth problem or a dodgy connection somewhere....Sure enough we arrived at Cheshire Oaks and i tried the switch...up it went
We went shopping and then back at the car, tried the windows....Nothing
I love xm's
Im not bothered, my old Passat side window packed in and it was out of action for about a year before i fixed it.
BUT.....the best bit.....last night i forgot to mention after doing the cigarette lighter i popped the bonnet and poked around a bit. I unplugged the turbo boost guage and checked the connection...seemed ok, i checked the previous owner's vacuum/pipe fix and suspected it wasnt making an air tight seal at the sensor end. I refitted it pushing it on really tight and clipped it up, On the motorway today i noticed the turbo guage has sprung back into life
The pipe has been frankenstein'd in the past, so i'll replace the lot with a nice piece of clean new pipe with some new clips and give the connector a quick spray with WD and then that should keep it in action for a few more years
This year im on a bit more money, so i want to slowly fix up the bits that need attention....centre console bulbs next, then the wishbone bushes need doing i think...it wobbles a bit under high speed braking...no pedal pulse though so im not suspecting brake discs...But that said, as its hydraulic braking, would the pedal pulse if the discs were warped?

Re: Vince's 2.1td xm .... the winter fix up
That dear Watson is a good question.
The linkage is a bit disconnected from feel. Mmmmmm, not sure.
I see your finding that XM's like to misbehave and fix themselves Vince. My oil level gauge sprung back into life last week....only once however. No it just flicks a little! Such is life.
I think my front bushes need looking at too. I get some judder on full lock, and it feels a little vague at times.
Glad the new job is working out for you Vince. What's the company car?

So, spring will have been deemed to have arrived when all XM oil level gauges start working again then Russ.
I like it
It's not been far off spring-like around these parts today. I got the Activa out of hibernation and gave her a good wash and then a good thrash around the country lanes to dry her off. Lovely

Re: Vince's 2.1td xm .... the winter fix up
I washed the XM and V6 yesterday Russ. All three cars now look quite sparkling compared to what they did last week...
This fine weather seems quite well settled by winter weather standards...

Slight risk or snow later in the month though. But if you believe the weather man........

Re: Vince's 2.1td xm .... the winter fix up
Well lets hope the weather man is wrong...again. I dont mind snow before christmas..kind of gets you in the mood, but once it starts to warm up, like now i prefer it to stay that way....especially because it means we can start messing with cars again
I want to have a good fettle with my oil level guage when i get chance. Whats the bets the guage is ok, but just needs a bit of recomissiong?
On the car cleaning front, isnt it satisfying after they get so messed up.....I picked up the mini tonight....thats very dirty. It will be better than new tomorrow though
