Had a moment to mess with the windows today, cleaned up the switches. The passanger window now opens from the driver controls. Less luck with the driver's window, switch is very temperemental, but jumping the connectors with wire works.

I opened the module, and found two weird things:

This weird stub of wire (center of the image)

The trace has been cut, and the connection replaced with a resistor

I also attempted to partially repair the crack in the glass with resin, but it seems the crack is either too big or I screwed up the instructions. Kinda sucks, it won't pass the NCT without new glass.

That track cut looks like a proper engineered cut, so as designed.

If using a jumper wire works, cleaning the switch and ensuring the contacts make well, should be all that is required.

I cleaned the switch, and I noticed the little flimsy spring contacts are cracking from fatigue, so that might be it? I also can't rule out the possibility of me dislodging one of those springy bits while reassembling. I'll have a look when it stops raining.

I have found a similar switch (one-touch and manual) from a Peugeot(?) that is widely available compared to the XM unit, looks to be the exact same shape of slot it goes into, just a different connector (pin vs spade) I'll see if its a possible viable replacement once it arrives.

Do I understand correctly that you are having problems with those relay contacts? My brother's V6 had a problem where the module would lower the window but refused to raise it. Modules for series 1 are quite rare and there was one on Ebay with an asking price of nearly 200€ which is grazy money. He bought a window module for a Xantia and I swapped those electromechanical relays to the original module and it worked perfectly.

It's problems with the contacts in the switch itself. I'm going to soak them in solvent later. The actual relays in the black box work right.

You're right, the replacements are stupid expensive. I've ordered some Peugeot(I think) switches that look like they might work

Ran into a problem with changing the belt. I cut the old one off, as it was on the verge of splitting anyway. The issue is, a new belt is wider than the worn out, and does not fit between the face of the small middle pulley and the frame of the car. Must be the tightest fit in an engine bay I've ever seen.

Any way to shift the engine sideways a few mm?

The belt should be 10mm wide and as such will ride quite high in the pulley groves, but will fit no issue.

There isn't any engine adjustment, but it's possible the engine mounts are worn out allowing the engine to sit lower and to one side.
Jiggle the engine about and slide the belt through the gap.
