Crank for 1995 2.1td
Hi, does anyone know where I can locate a crank for my 2.1td 12v 1995 estate. With only 60,000 on the clock it managed to spin the shells on pot 3 after the tabs seemly failed. On removal and inspection, this crank is now too far gone to grind. Any assistance gratefully recieved. Murray

Re: Crank for 1995 2.1td
I have a 2.1 1992 TD engine, nearly compleat, what went wrong with it was the timing belt jump a few teeth, I never did get round to pulling it apart to see how much damage was done. I am down here in Southampton if you want to look

Re: Crank for 1995 2.1td
A 2.1td with jumped timing belt will have broken some cam followers and possibly bent some valves, but the bottom end should be ok.
At 1995 both engines should be ATE versions, from memory BTE didn't become available until 1996/7. I think the bottom ends are the same anyway.
A low mileage 2.1td spinning crank shells is unheard of. The shells must have suffered some oil starvation, as friction is what holds them in position, rather than the locating tabs. Even if one tab was compromised, the other would stop rotation. Some shells don't have any tabs.
I've recently replaced the shells on my 170,000 mile engine as part of sorting an oil leak. The big end shells did have some wear, but it was minimal, though #5 and #4 main and #4 big ends showed witness of a contaminant having passed through at some stage.
Important:
When re-installing the #1 main bearing cap (flywheel end), you will need some slip sheets to be able to insert the rubber seals without damaging them.
I used 0.02mm stainless sheet.

Note the oil pump is gasket-less and a dry fit. I thought about using Hylomar blue, but then cleaned it off and went for dry fit.
